Young Filmmakers (Grades 5–6) — 2025–2026

Lights, camera, leadership! Students take on rotating roles—writing, directing, camera, sound, and editing— producing short films together and building advanced collaboration skills. The year concludes with a red-carpet premiere.

About the Program

Young Filmmakers immerses students in the full filmmaking pipeline across the school year—story development, screenplay, directing, cinematography, sound, and editing—culminating in finished projects and a festival screening.

Space is limited — sign up early.

When & Where

Thursdays from 3:30–5:00 PM. Students will be brought to the front office for pickup after each session.

Make-ups: Sessions canceled due to school closures will be scheduled after Spring Recess.

Festival: Young Filmmakers / HJMS Film Festival will be held on May 29, 2026.

Tuition & Payment Options

Cost: $650 for the full year. Installments: $250 initial dues, then $400 due December 8, 2025.

Volunteer Waiver: One parent volunteer spot is available and includes a tuition waiver for their child.

Financial assistance: PTO Scholarship Funds are available. No student should be denied access to SQL Clubs & Activities due to financial hardship. Please contact SQL Social Worker Marisa Nelson, or your homeroom teacher. All requests are confidential.
